Student body elections took place at Big Sky High School last week, with results coming in on Thursday, April 23 from the Big Sky official Instagram account.
With several candidates in the running at each grade level, the winners were as follows:
Student body co-presidents: Bo Morrison and Brynn Winward.
Senior class co-presidents:Kieran Cooney and Elise Regan.
Junior class co-presidents: Sophie Larson and Skadi Smith.
Sophomore class co-presidents:Thomas Johnson and Scarlett Dill.
This year, elections were a little different. Last year, there was some controversy about the voting process itself, and how Google Forms were allegedly used by Sentinel students to have more votes cast.
Ms. Emma Keffeler, the overseer of the Big Sky Student Council, had this to say about the elections and the process used.
“Last year, we used a QR code, which was open for about a week and anybody could vote for anybody- juniors could vote for freshmen, it just made the process messy,” Keffeler explained.
“So, what we did [this year] was we talked with the admin and decided the best way to vote was for their grade to vote for their president and their student body.”
To prevent complications while voting and potential cheating, the QR code was only open for a couple of minutes in the auditorium while each class filtered in at a time and placed their votes.”
After speaking with Keffeler, it’s clear that another year of elections brings new presidents and different ways of managing the student body,
“The new presidents are involved in different kinds of activities this year than different student body presidents in the past,” says Keffeler. “It’ll be different, but I think they have some good ideas, so it’ll be good.”
