For this photo feature, Big Sky Sun Journal reporter went to the archives to see what Big Sky looked like in the first years of its existence. Then, he captured an image from today for comparison to see how much has changed.

Big Sky High School East Side Teacher/Staff Lot 1979 / 2026. There is now more pavement to the lot and a clear difference in the number of cars.
Big Sky High School North-East Student Parking Lot 1980 / 2026. There is a big difference between the two, most notably in vegetation (trees, grass), as well as building changes.
Big Sky High School 30s Hallway Old 1980 / 2026. Flooring is different as well as the addition of clocks.
Big Sky High School North/East Counselor Hall 1980/2026. Compared to back then, there is now a room to the left side of the hallway for the counselors which is not seen in the 1980 photo.
Big Sky High School Main Hall 1980/2026. The most noticeable difference is that there are no longer any lockers in the middle of the hallway. There are also changes to the lights.
Big Sky High School Woodshop Room 1980 / 2026. Many changes with the design of the walls, the addition of equipment, and a clear creative change to the room (woodshop designs incorporated into the room).
Big Sky High School Science Room 1980 / 2026. The biggest change seems to be less metal poles protruding from the desks in the new photo. Also an addition of cupboards/cabinets.
Big Sky High School Culinary Class 1980 / 2026. There is a large lack of wooden cupboards and a clear upgrade in equipment as seen in the new photo.
Big Sky High School Core Hallway 1980 / 2026. Huge difference in that there are now walls covering most of the hallway as well as the lack of machines throughout the core.
Big Sky High School Classroom 1980 / 2026. While probably not the same classroom, there is a big difference in the way classrooms looked back then (typewriters, chalkboards, etc.) and they way they look now.
Big Sky High School Main Gym 1981 / 2026. There is a lot more customization now to the gym with paint and design on the bleachers as well as the floor. The roof has also endured some changes over the years
Big Sky High School Outside West 1981 / 2026. One of the biggest changes is that there is now grass to the field as well as a softball field and fences. The building itself hasn’t seemed to have changed too much from this angle, however.
