Kellen Currie: This year marks the first year of the Sun Journal coming back to Big Sky. Our team will be on summer break, and no stories will be produced until the start of next school year.
I personally had a ton of fun getting to produce stories covering many different topics, and getting to talk with all kinds of students throughout the halls.
Next year, our editors and other staff journalists are looking to win some awards for our stories we’ve produced throughout the year. Our Sun Journal team is expanding significantly next year, and we will continue to publish new sets of stories every week. Enjoy the summer break, Eagles!
Kade Dunning: Before we go, here are some highlight stories from this year that, if you haven’t checked out yet, then you should!
“Where Are They Now” is a feature written by Maia Haney and Kellen Currie. The story takes on the topic of teacher layoffs last school year, and where some of Big Sky’s laid off teachers have ended up since. It is currently one of our most popular print stories to date.
But we didn’t limit ourselves to only print stories this year. We also produced a large amount of video and audio stories. By the end of the year, we had one running video series and one podcast.
Recorded by Hadrian Lemmon and hosted by Kade Dunning, our video series “Eagle Spotlight” provided insight into members of the Big Sky community, featuring everyone from students, to teachers, to individuals in the greater Missoula area.
Rudy Ochs, Diego Lacayo, and Ari Manthie also produced “The Underground Podcast,” a satirical podcast that discusses genres of music and some of the popular artists within it. So if you get the chance, check out these stories before we start up again next year to catch up!
Rudy Ochs: Yeah, what everyone else said, I had a great year too, yo. It was pretty frickin’ sick. So, uh, congrats on all the stories everyone wrote. We all grew a lot this year and I’m really proud of all my fellow reporters. Congrats on getting through the year everyone, and have a great break!
