The Montana Office of Public Instruction announced that starting Fall 2025 there will be a required semester dance class for every high school student.
According to a March 30 press release, the dance class will be provided by the school and will be a PE credit.
“The students will learn a bunch of dance genres and the history of dance,” said Jennifer Courtney, principal of Big Sky High School.
All three Missoula city public schools will have their dance team coaches teach this class, and at the end of the semester they will have a showcase showing what all the students have done throughout the semester, Courtney said.
The reason this is being put into place is to get students to get up and move, the press release noted. Dance will help students with their motor skills and their dance skills. ‘Cause we know you need it, Happy April Fool’s.
