Head coach of University of Montana’s boys basketball team Travis DeCuire resigned today, according to school officials.
As of now, DeCuire has not made any comment as to why he has stepped down. But rumors have already begun circulating that Zachary Murphy from Big Sky High School is a top candidate for the role.
Murphy has coached various levels of basketball across his eight-year career, ranging from the freshman to varsity level. He just concluded his fourth year as head coach at Big Sky after an up and down season, beating multiple top ranked opponents (Billings West and Billings Skyview) and one of their crosstown rivals, Sentinel, late in the season. But, the team fell short of the state tournament.
In spite of this, Murphy is known for his meticulous preparation and strategizing, which has provided success to his teams time and time again. He’s open to bringing that approach to the Griz.
“I’m grateful to Big Sky and this community. If I’m lucky enough to receive the job, I will carry my experiences here with me for the rest of my life,” Murphy said.
“I look forward to the chance for an even bigger opportunity to help impact this community on an even greater scale. Go Eagles, and go Griz.”
