Are you bored at home and miss restaurant food? Maybe corona’s got you down, or maybe you just need new hobby.

Try baking. While this definitely isn’t going to be the most successful hobby at times, it will give you something to do. And hey, maybe you will learn to clean in the process . . . because baking is going make a mess. So get your apron!

Let’s start it off easy and minimal clean up. To start this off we have rice pudding and meringue (meh-RENG) cookies.  Both recipes are delicious and simple anyone can do it. Keep  on reading and see how to make this at home.

 

Rice Pudding

2 1/2 cups (600 ml) of whole milk

1/3 cup (66 grams) of uncooked short grain white rice

Pinch of salt

1 egg

1/4 cup (50 grams) dark brown sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 

1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

1/3 cup (40 grams) raisins

So add all your ingredients in a pot on low and just forget about it and when you remember “oh dang my rice,” it’s probably done.

Just kidding, don’t do that. So to start this recipe off, start by putting your milk and vanilla extract in a pot on the stove. Put in your cinnamon and bring that to a boil. Then, add your rice and dark brown sugar and let that cook on low until the rice is finished cooking (until all the water has either evaporated or been absorbed, the rice grains are soft, and it looks ready to eat). Keep checking it so you don’t burn it.

Optional: add raisins. 

 

Meringue Cookies

3 large egg whites, at room temperature

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 

1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar 

3/4 cup granulated sugar

So this one is a little self-explanatory, but to start it off, bring your three large eggs to a stiff peak with a mixer. You can do it by hand, but it will take some time and muscle.

Then add in vanilla extract and cream of tartar and your sugar.

Put cookies of about one teaspoon on a baking sheet, and then bake it 200 for 45 minutes.

Turn off your oven and leave them in there to sit for another 30 minutes take them out and let cool completely and you’re done.
