Superintendent Mark Thane announces Jennifer Courtney as the new Principal of Big Sky back in May of 2018. Thane will retire after this year.

Mark Thane announced his retirement from his position as superintendent of Missoula County Public Schools, after being part of the district for 39 years. His retirement is effective June 30th, 2019.

According to an article in the Missoulian, Thane began his career as a teacher and worked his way up to principal, then executive regional director and executive director of human resources and labor relations. In a press release Thane said “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to serve with amazing colleagues — certified, classified and administrative — who challenged me and mentored me along the way.”

Some of Thane’s accomplishments have been passing Smart Schools 2020 bonds in November 2015. These bonds have funded construction and renovation at all of the districts school.

The board of trustees will hire a new superintendent.
