New Staff Profile: Mrs. South (Art)

Marissa Lehnen, Intro to Journalism

Sun Journal: Do your students ever inspire your own personal artwork?

Mrs.South: I would say that yes my students do inspire my own personal art work, especially my seniors. When we have a discussion it is not just myself talking but everyone brings in a different view and aspect to the conversation, which is something I think we can all learn from.

Sun Journal: So, Mrs.South, did you love art as a kid?

Mrs.South: Yes, I did love art. As a kid I remember sitting at the table with my grandma, and back then I knew that that was exactly what I wanted to do.

Sun Journal: What lead you to love art?

Mrs.South: Well, when I was little I just knew that I wanted to be an artist but as I grew up I learned to love journalism and English and writing, and that is what I thought I wanted to do when I graduated high school. But then my grandma passed away and I sat down at a table and really thought about all of the amazing time that I had with my grandma and decided that I truly do love art and I wanted to be an artist.

Sun Journal: Do you have any personal favorite artwork?

Mrs.South: I have one piece that I made in memory of my grandma, it is made out of bronze pine cones that I put in glass and so it looks like the pine cones are in snow.

Sun Journal: Thank you so much Mrs.South for taking the time out of your day for this interview.

Mrs.South: No problem. Anytime.
